Based on a scene from this K&K strip; www.kevinandkell.com/2000/kk10… I think that this is what the mothers of the leading stars of the comic might've have been up to when they were younger back in the late 60s.

With her background, I think Dorothy might've been in the army, possibly as a PT Instructor - and before she met Bentley.
So whilst Elanor was a savvy operative for political gain, Dorothy could've been among those who oppressed Elanor's lot.

Dorothy's uniform was based on that of Sergeant Bertha Blast from Hanna-Barbera's Private Olive Oyl cartoons.
